Hi Everyone! I'm a public defender and a recovering addict navigating my recovery journey. I created this website to provide information and a place for you to find info and share your struggles & accomplishments. Enjoy!
Hi my name is Tiffany Haymes and I am 29 years old and I have a drug problem. I thought I could stop smoking weed on my own and found that I cant. I feel like I cant make it through the day without smoking more than 3 blunts a day and I became so lazy and I don’t eat when I smoke pot.
I feel like that feeds my hunger. I have an 11 year old son who needs me and if I keep smoking pot and spending my money on that then I lose and so does my son. I cant find peace with what went wrong in my life when I was a child so I feel like smoking weed takes all the pain away.
Today is my first step to sobriety and I know its step by step and day by day – easier said than done!!!!!! I keep telling myself that i need to smoke a blunt and the fight is on. What are the steps I need to take to stay drug free?
My Response
Hi Tiffany,
You’re right that the early days are the hardest. All we’ve known for so long is using drugs to cope so when that is taken away, it’s hard to figure out how to just get through each day. You realize that you have a problem and you are motivated to change – that’s one of the greatest things you can have. Talking about it and committing to change is a great first step.
Have you ever been to AA/NA meeting? For me, meetings made early sobriety so much easier. I found people who really understood what I was going through. I always had somewhere to go and someone to talk to.
I don’t believe that AA/NA and the 12 steps are the only route to recovery, but I do think they can be great options to keep in mind. I would definitely suggest looking into some meetings. Just remember why you want to change and what you have going for you. You and your son both deserve to have you happy and healthy. Good luck!
